Take a look at what Nick Kyrgios had to say about the Novak Djokovic situation
Novak Djokovic was recently denies entry in Australia because of not being vaccinated. Australia’s border security had stopped the Serbian from entering the country. Moreover, his visa was also blocked.
As per the reports, Djokovic has been transferred to Melbourne’s Park Hotel which is a detention facility and awaits deportation. The situation is really turning bad for the world no.1 and fellow tennis star Nick Kyrgios has also commented on it.
Kyrgios feels like the situation is really bad. He also took to Twitter to express his distress on the situation and said:
“Look I definitely believe in taking action, I got vaccinated because of others and for my mums health, but how we are handling Novak’s situation is bad, really bad. Like these memes, headlines, this is one of our great champions but at the end of the day, he is human. Do better.”
Djokovic looked on course to fight for a 21st Grand Slam at the Australian Open. However, he will have to wait longer. The Serbian had earlier revealed that he had gotten an ‘exemption permission’. However, it turns out that wasn’t the case.
As Djokovic’s visa was cancelled. Australian Prime Minister also took to Twitter and said:
“Mr Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled. Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules. Our strong border policies have been critical to Australia having one of the lowest death rates in the world from COVID, we are continuing to be vigilant.”
The Australian government has done a pretty good job over the past two years for containing the virus. And it looks like they are not ready to loosen up their norms anytime soon.
