There’s no doubt that Carlos Alcaraz is one of the brightest prospects in men’s tennis and has a great future ahead of him.
The youngster turned pro in 2018 and has already made a name for himself. He is mentioned in the list of the most talented players in the new generation that will have to pick up the baton of the sport once “The Big 3” hang up their boots. The likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and a few others have already shown sparks of their potential.
The 19-year-old Alcaraz has had a tremendous season so far. He has won four titles and lost in a couple of finals. In 2022, he won 50 matches and lost just 9, and is one win away from becoming the first Spanish player to win the US Open after his idol, Rafael Nadal.
Alcaraz is known for his power game and endurance. He is quite accurate on the move and can frustrate opponents with his decent defensive skills as well.
Craig O’Shannessey, the coach and data analyst who has experience working with Novak Djokovic, had this to say about Alcaraz in a recent interview: “There’s nothing in his game that is going to go wrong. No looseness, no nuts, and bolts flying around under the hood in his technique. Even mentally, he just doesn’t beat himself.”
One of Carlos Alcaraz’s favorite and most effective shots is the lob. He uses it quite frequently during his matches and to good effect as well. It might be too early to call him the best player of the lob but he is certainly among the greatest.
