Novak Djokovic names Daniil Medvedev as a player to take over Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer

Talking to the media (h/t Express), Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has tipped Daniil Medvedev to lead men’s tennis once Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal hang their boots from the sport.

Djokovic has had an outstanding year as he not only finished the year-end ATP rankings as world No.1, but also won three Grand Slams which includes Australian and French Opens along with Wimbledon.

Djokovic has 20 grand slams up his sleeves.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion in the process also created history at the Rolex Paris Masters, claiming the year-end No 1 ranking for a record seventh time, as well as winning a record 37th Masters 1000 title.

However, the Serbian, who missed out on the US Open title after straight sets defeat to Medvedev got his revenge as he defeated him 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final on Sunday.

Djokovic hailed Medvedev as one of the best in the game.

After the win, talking to the media (h/t Express) Djokovic said:

“He’s one of the guys that you see, where you see the commitment and devotion to everyday training and trying to perfect his game. He’s a very smart and nice guy. Tries to maximize his potential.”

“He’s closing in on the world No 1 rankings. I’m sure he’s going to get it eventually, and when he does, it’s completely deserved, because he’s the leader of the next generation of players.”

The Serbian legend can definitely call himself one of the best players in the world, if not the best, as he has had an exceptional career so far and by no means he is finished yet. He has won the most number of Grand Slams alongside tennis legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

And with Djokovic and Nadal in their 30s and Federer is already 40 now – it’s just a matter of time when the next generation of tennis stars took the baton in their hands from these superstars.

Although Djokovic and Nadal still dominate the court in almost every Grand Slams –  the likes of Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Medvedev are the ones for the future.
