Srdjan Djokovic, the father of Novak, hit out at Roger Federer, again
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal might be tied at 20 Grand Slams each but Novak Djokovic is on the hunt to reach the top spot.
The Serbian is currently on 18 Grand Slams and recently picked up the 2021 Australian Open. Djokovic has dominated the Australian Open and seems to be in great shape to win more Slams.
Federer and Nadal have had to deal with injuries in recent years. The Swiss Ace, Federer, also missed a chunk of last season due to problems and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
However, that hasn’t stopped Srdjan, the father of Novak Djokovic, from slamming Federer. The senior Djokovic has hit out at both Nadal and the Swiss Ace in the past over their rivalry with Novak.
The Serbian is often looked down upon when compared to Nadal and Federer. However, Srdjan believes his son doesn’t get the rub of the green compared to Federer.
Srdjan was speaking to Nova (h/t Express) and said:
“[Federer was] the best at that time. But as much as he is a great champion, he is not as good a man.
“[Djokovic] took the best [characteristics] from me and my wife [Diana]. From me, courage and bravery, and from his mother, calmness and composure.”
Novak’s father added that he doesn’t watch his son’s matches. However, Novak’s mother watches them and Srdjan claimed that women are “stronger” than men.
Srdjan also seemed to hit out at Nadal and Federer. He seemed to be upset with the fans too and had a lot to say with regards to the treatment meted out to his son:
“Obviously, they don’t have the best opinion of us and we are constantly bothering them.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t want to be a part of their world. It seems to me that their world is twisted.
“They slander him so much. They say so many disgusting things about him that it’s just amazing. We will never have such a champion again.
“I’m really sorry that they don’t like [me speaking out]. I’m just telling the truth, which they don’t like. What should I do?”
Suffice to say, the battle will rage on with Djokovic and the other two. The Serbian is better placed to win more Grand Slams than Federer and Nadal, but he has to stay fig too.
Novak is 33 and has a few quality years left in him. It will be interesting to see how things go and there is no doubt his father will have a few things to say.
