2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios is currently recovering from a knee injury which forced him to withdraw from the recently concluded Australian Open
Nick Kyrgios is never away from the spotlight and it’s no different even now when he is recovering from an injury. Kyrgios indulged in a light-hearted banter on Twitter, and it has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Wimbledon’s official handle put out a tweet earlier today: “Who made you fall in love with #Wimbledon – and why?,” Nick Kyrgios being at his sarcastic best responded: “My red Jordan hat”, referring to a controversial incident involving himself that took place in Wimbledon 2022.
Kyrgios’ Tweet clearly referred to the presentation ceremony at Wimbledon last year, when he defied the all-white dress code to sport a bright red cap while receiving the runners-up shield from the Duchess of Cambridge. Kyrgios’ gesture had drawn a lot of flak as he broke a traditional rule with regard to the tournament’s dress code which has been followed since the tournament’s beginning in 1877. Kyrgios was wearing a white cap throughout his match but during the presentation ceremony, he swapped it for a bright red Nike Jordan cap, a move that flouted nearly a century and a half of tournament tradition calling for players to wear white clothing on court.
Let us take a look at some of the responses from fans on Twitter.
“Great that you still appeared over another half dozen Wimbledons without any love, before the red hat”, wrote a fan.
“Bet @Nike loved you for that! I almost forgot to buy one!! On order now”, tweeted another fan.
“No one has ever overrated themselves more than you”, read a tweet from an offended fan.
“Hope you wear it again this year. F*** their stupid traditions”, commented another fan.
Another fan wrote: “They sure didn’t like you that day huh NK??”
