3rd seed Paula Badosa beats Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in an intense encounter at the Roland Garros

Paula Badosa survived a scare to pull off an impressive win against Kaja Juvan. The Spaniard becomes the first top 10 seed in the women’s singles draw to book a place in the third round of the French Open. The 3rd seed will now face Veronika Kudermetova in the next round.

Badosa has a 24-10 win-loss record in 2022 now. Since winning the Sydney International title this year, Badosa didn’t quite get going in the events that followed. This was the first meeting between Badosa and Juvan. The 24-year-old Badosa has now taken a 1-0 lead on head-to-head. Badosa has a 9-2 win-loss record at Roland Garros. Overall, she has a 17-11 record at Slams.

In an intense encounter, Badosa fired two aces compared to one by Juvan. However, Badosa made four double faults. Badosa had a 68% win on the first serve and converted six of the nine breakpoints. She won a total of 53 service points.

Fans react to Paula Badosa’s win in a thriller against Juvan

Fans certainly loved the encounter between Badosa and Juvan. It was intense, fierce and went down to the wire. At no point did it appear that the much superior seed, Badosa would steamroll her opponent.

“Juvan was completely drained and in pain… Pity she got a real chance to pull the upset”, wrote a fan who feels unseeded Juvan could have won the match but for fitness issues.”

“Paula Badosa did well there. Kaja Juvan is a tricky customer for a top seed, full of dinks, dropshots and general irritation. But Badosa got there in the end, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Now faces Veronika Kudermetova. #RolandGarros”, tweeted another user who believes Badosa did well to notch up a crucial win against a tricky opponent.

Another fan backs Badosa to stop World No.1 Iga Swiatek’s ongoing invincible run. “The only player who can probably stop swiatek but she’s ain’t that great in finishing points anyways”, he wrote.

An elated fan tweeted, “This girl is AMAZING!!! The fight that she showed…Simply inspirational, this girl Paula Badosa. WOW!”
