Peyton Stearns is set to take a temporary break from professional Tennis – here’s everything you need to know

American WTA star Peyton Stearns will be taking a short break from Tennis after being diagnosed with an unknown illness. She is experiencing fatigue and various other symptoms due to the presence of a parasite in her body.

Stearns had been struggling with sickness ever since her campaign at the French Open but she mistook it for minor illness.

She went on to appear in two more tournaments – the WTA 125K Makaraska and the Grass Court Championships in Berlin. However, she suffered early exits from both the events and further aggravated her illness.

Peyton Stearns found it hard “to get out of bed”

She took to social media to announce her decision of taking a break and revealed the issues she has been facing since Paris. “Since the French Open I’ve been battling an unknown illness on and off randomly. I’ve had severe symptoms and countless trips to the bathroom per day, as my body was rejecting something inside of me. I wasn’t able to keep food down most days and because of that my body was fatigued and tired making it extremely hard to get out of bed some mornings”, she wrote.

When the symptoms became too tough to handle, Stearns decided to seek medical help. The tests indicated that she has a ‘Parasite’ in her body.

“I thought it was just the flu or something similar and was told to let it run its course, but after 3 weeks I decided to seek medical help from a doctor. After running some blood and other tests we found out I’ve been hosting a parasite in my body! Going to take some time to recover and get ready for Wimbledon and most importantly get this parasite out of my body for good”, she further stated.

Parasites are tricky to handle as it takes time to clear them from the body but Stearns is hopeful that she will recover in time to play at Wimbledon 2023, which is scheduled to start on July 3.
