Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz put up a sensational performance to win his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open
Carlos Alcaraz saw off Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the US Open final to win his first Grand Slam title and also become the new world No. 1. Alcaraz is now the youngest No. 1 player in tennis history and his country’s latest superstar. The Spanish people absolutely love their teenage sensation and that was clear as Alcaraz billboards can now be seen all over Spain. In the picture, Alcaraz can be seen sporting a Nike costume.
At 19, Alcaraz is a Grand Slam champion, a two-time Masters champion and the youngest No. 1 in tennis history. But he insists his humble demeanor will never change and he will stay the same person he was before the US Open title. “Tomorrow morning, when I look at the mirror, I’m gonna be the same kid: proud to be from El Palmar, from Murcia. Proud to be Spanish. I love my people,” Alcaraz claimed. The teenager certainly never cannot win hearts both on and off the court.
This is not the first time though that Alcaraz has given a Hero’s welcome. Earlier this year, the teenager was greeted with a mural in his hometown of Murcia. Alcaraz’s mural was 400 square-meters wide, with 300 kilograms of plastic being used in various shades. Varnish has been applied to prevent the mural’s degradation and preserve the shine.
