Rafael Nadal will represent Team Europe in the Laver Cup, scheduled to take place from 23 to 25 September in London
Rafael Nadal has tagged himself as Laver Cup in a photo he posted on Instagram. Nadal can be seen sharing the frame with Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer ahead of their Laver Cup match against Europe. “Nice little practice” he captioned the post. Interestingly, the four players in the picture combined have won all the Grand Slam singles titles from 2003 to 2022.
Rafael Nadal will be in action in Day 1 itself. He will play the final match of the day partnering Roger Federer in their doubles match against Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Besides Federer and Nadal’s doubles encounter against Sock and Tiafoe there are three other interesting matches schedule for Day 1. The opening match of the Laver Cup will see Europe’s Casper Ruud taking on World’s Jack Sock. It will be followed by two more singles clashes – Tsitsipas against Schwartzman and Andy Murray against Alex de Minaur.
Rafael Nadal’s presence makes Team Europe even more stronger on paper
Rafael Nadal adds more quality and experience to a very strong Team Europe. Team Europe’s squad features the ‘Big Four’ – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray – with Norway’s Casper Ruud and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas being the other members. Italy’s Matteo Berrettini has been named as the alternate player in the squad.
While Team Europe have a really strong and experienced squad, Team World are fielding a relatively more young squad. Team World comprises a host of promising youngsters including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, Diego Schwartzman, Alex de Minaur, John Isner and Jack Sock. Tommy Paul has been named as the alternate player in their squad.
