Roger Federer, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini among others will be representing Team Europe at Laver Cup

The players at the Laver Cup seem to be absolutely enjoying their time in London and Roger Federer is no different. The Swiss maestro didn’t leave the chance to indulge in banter with his younger teammates Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini. “Looking sharp guy, but just fyi the court’s the other way”, Federer wrote on his Instagram story, taking a dig at the two players who appear to be posing for a photo on the sidelines.

Federer will be in action on Day 1 itself. He will play the final match of the day partnering with Rafael Nadal in their doubles match against Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Besides Federer and Nadal’s doubles encounter against Sock and Tiafoe there are three other interesting matches scheduled for Day 1. The opening match of the Laver Cup will see Europe’s Casper Ruud taking on World’s Jack Sock. It will be followed by two more singles clashes – Tsitsipas against Schwartzman and Andy Murray against Alex de Minaur.

Roger Federer is third on the list of men’s tennis players with the most Grand Slam wins – 20. Only Rafael Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic (21) are ahead of him on the illustrious list. Pete Sampras with 14 is a distant fourth. Federer is so much more than just an amazing tennis player though. He is an icon for a while generation and his legacy will definitely be remembered as long as the sport of Tennis is played.

Federer’s decision doesn’t come as a surprise as he has been struggling with a knee injury for a while now. The tennis legend, who won his maiden Grand Slam title back in 2003, has lifted the Wimbledon trophy eight times. He also has six Australian Open, one French Open, and five US Open titles to his name.

The Swiss legend held World No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings for 310 weeks, second-most since 1973 behind only Novak Djokovic. However, Federer held top spot for a record 237 consecutive weeks from 2 February 2004 until 18 August 2008.
