Naomi Osaka made the news in the 2021 Australian Open after a butterfly landed on her face
Naomi Osaka is one of the favourites for the 2021 Australian Open but her butterfly moment got everyone talking.
Osaka is one of the few players on the circuit that has taken a stand on many social issues. She wore special masks with names of those killed by police brutality in the US Open a while back and she was at her caring best against Ons Jabeur in the 2021 Australian Open.
The moment took place in the third round as Osaka seemed set to serve. A butterfly ended up landing on her face and she was distracted a bit.
However, instead of swatting the butterfly away, Osaka carefully took it to the side of the court. The butterfly flew away but it was great to see Osaka take time and provide some care for the insect.
This moment went viral with millions of views across accounts. Osaka, who is a big user of social media, was quick to comment about it and she still didn’t understand why this went viral in the first place.
“Yooo why does this video have so many retweets and likes”
The clip in question had over 2.6million views, 19.2K retweets and 119.6K likes at the time of writing.
This wasn’t from any official handle and those videos could have racked up many more millions views and impressions.
Naomi Osaka looking to make another viral moment at the 2021 Australian Open
Osaka already has one Aussie Open title under her belt and this took place in 2019. Australia has a special place for the 23-year-old as she won her second Grand Slam here.
She also won the 2020 US Open and her first Grand Slam was the 2018 US Open. Osaka defeated Jabeur and then got the better of Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round.
The Japanese star is to take on Su-wei Hseih in the quarter-final next and she should be the favourite for this clash too.
