Ambidextrous players are a rare sight in Tennis and Teodor Davidov is already being labelled as a next-gen superstar
Teodor Davidov from Bulgaria has gone viral in no time after video clips surfaced on the internet, where he can be seen playing with both hands. The 12-year-old is ambidextrous and is trained by his father and coach to play with both hands to improve his balance in the game.
Young Teodor’s father Kalin is a professional Tennis coach and is the mastermind behind Teo’s ambidextrous playing style.
Ambidextrous tennis is a rarity on the professional tour and not many players have been successful with this playing style. However, Teodor’s father is ready to take the risk and claims that the main reason behind his son’s ambidextrous playing style has nothing to do with his Tennis strategy.
“When Teo was about to turn eight years old, I decided he’s going to start playing left-handed, to affect his right hemisphere of the brain. He’s way too extroverted, too fiery, a little too imbalanced, so I just wanted to affect the right hemisphere of his brain, using the left part of his body”, Kalin had earlier revealed in an interview. Whatever may be the reason, Teodor has been quite successful at the junior level with his unique playing style and if he can keep up the consistency, he will certainly emerge as a bright prospect in the World of Tennis.
