12 phenomenal players will be seen in action in the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup which begins on 8th December.
The tournament will be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and 3 out of the 12 players that will be seen in action are former Grand Slam champions. 4 out of the 12 players are currently ranked in the top 10 of the ATP rankings.
Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Stephan Stricker, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios, Hubert Hurkacz, Matteo Berrettini, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev, Cameron Norrie, and Daniil Medvedev will compete at the exhibition tournament that will take place on December 8-10.
Former world No. 2 Alexander Zverev returns to action in the tournament after suffering a severe injury at the French Open. He expects the competition to be intense as many players have been in action recently.
“It will be a high level tournament and I think everybody’s in form because they’re still either coming from Davis Cup or they just came from the ATP Finals and playing great tennis,” said the German player in an interview.
The winner of the singles event will earn a whopping $1 million as prize money. The runner-up will take home $500,000 as prize money. The two semifinalists will make $250,000.
In the doubles tournament, the winning take will bag $250,000 as prize money while the finalists will net $125,000. The doubles semifinalists will make $75,000.
The first-ever edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup was organized in 2019. However, in 2020 and 2021, the tournament was not held because of the pandemic.
Daniil Medvedev won the inaugural edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals, David Goffin in the semis, and Fabio Fognini in the final.
The Russian athlete defeated Fognini in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to win the title. Medvedev is once again one of the favorites to win the title.
