Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Pau Gasol are close friends
Spanish sporting greats Rafael Nadal and Pau Gasol are joining hands to raise funds for the Red Cross in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Spain has been one of the worst affected countries in the world due to the pandemic virus, with death toll crossing several thousand’s.
Nadal and his friend two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol are hoping to raise eleven million euros to help those affected in this time of extreme crisis.
The two Spaniards aim to mobilise the whole Spanish sports world in an aim to collect enough money required to support the Spanish Red Cross.
The 19-time Grand Slam winner took to Twitter on Thursday by posting a video wherein he explains the severity of the issue and his aim of raising some money to support the needful.
“Like all of you, I am at home and the reality is that what we are going through was unimaginable a few months ago.
“Supply of medical equipment, construction of hospital infrastructures, aid to the most vulnerable families”, Nadal was heard speaking role of the Red Cross in the video.
The 32-year-old posted with the hashtag CruzRojaResponde, thus displaying his support to the project aimed at supporting the Spanish Red Cross.
Meanwhile, Gasol also played his part in the appeal calling out other sportsmen by posting a video of himself in his social media handle.
“The Spanish people have never given up on athletes. You have always been by our side, whether in moments of joy or in complicated moments, he says. […] We are what we are thanks in large part to your support and now it is up to us, athletes, not to disappoint you.
“I want to assure you that you are not alone,” Gasol said in the video posted on Twitter.
He later added that Nadal and he have already made their contributions to the cause and that it was on its way.
“I hope that all Spanish sport will join this call so that all of us can overcome this virus. The time has come for us to achieve our greatest victory.”
Both the friends used the hashtag Nuestramejorvictoria as a slogan to mobilise the rest of the contributors and offer their support for Spain.
