Rafael Nadal will be back in action on the ATP tour, starting with Canada Masters in the first week of August
Rafael Nadal‘s 2022 Wimbledon campaign came to an unexpected end last week when the 22-time Grand Slam champion was forced to withdraw from the tournament ahead of his semifinal clash with an abdomen injury.
Thankfully, the Spaniard only has a short recovery period ahead of him, an estimated 3-4 weeks, following which he’ll resume action at the Canada Masters in Montreal.
At the Canada Masters, Rafael Nadal is a five-time winner, one short of Ivan Lendl’s record haul of six titles. The 22-time grand slam champion first won the title in 2005, followed by triumphs in 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2019. Interestingly, the Spaniard has only reached the final of the tournament five times to date, meaning that he is unbeaten in summit clashes at the event.
Rafael Nadal spoke about his plans for the remainder of the season in a recent interview. “My logic is to play first the Masters 1000 in Canada, and then take stock. Generally, I do well here and I don’t like to change what works well. You know that things are not predictable for me. I’m ready to accept things as they will come and make the best decisions possible.” Nadal is looking forward to playing in Montreal.
Rafael Nadal is set to resume training from Monday
Nadal is all set to make his ATP return since his Wimbledon injury and will resume his practice for the North American hardcourt swing from Monday onwards as confirmed by the tournament director of the Canadian Open, Eugene Lapierre. “Nadal really wants to come to Montreal and his hotel rooms are already booked. He was sent a crate of balls to use during the tournament to prepare. He should return to training on Monday“, said Lapierre.
Earlier this month, Rafael Nadal’s hope of becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1986 to claim the Calendar Year Slam ended as an abdominal tear forced him to withdraw ahead of his semi-final match at the Wimbledon 2022 tournament. Reportedly a 7 millimeter tear, which he had incurred during the thrilling five-setter in the quarterfinal,
Nadal claimed that it would have ended up as a career-threatening injury had he taken the risk of going forward in the tournament. But Nadal is all set to return make a comeback as it has been revealed that the Spaniard will resume training from Monday onwards.
