Rafael Nadal has posted a heartfelt tribute to Michael Robinson who lost a long battle with cancer

Michael Robinson was part of the Liverpool squad that won a league, League Cup and European Cup treble in 1984. He won 24 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team as well.

After retiring from the game, he had a stellar broadcasting career in Spain, during which he won a number of accolades.

Robinson had announced in December 2018 that he had been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. And earlier today, his family informed of his passing via his social media account.

Rafael Nadal posts tribute

Tributes have been flowing in for Robinson since the news emerged. Former clubs Liverpool, Brighton, along with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City have sent messages to his family.

And now Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal has also followed suit, posting an emotional, heartfelt message for the former Liverpool star.

The Spaniard posted a picture of himself standing alongside Robinson with a message in Spanish, which translates to:

“We woke up with the sad news of the death of one of our own. You were the one who always made us happy about sport. We are grateful to you. D.E.P. A hug and all possible encouragement to your family.”

Nadal had worked with Robinson in the past, for the latter’s documentary series ‘Informe Robinson’ for Movistar+.
