Rafael Nadal is the king of Monte Carlo and seems ready to win the 2021 tournament
Tennis great Rafael Nadal is a legend in Monte Carlo after winning several titles and is keen on picking up the 2021 gold.
The competition wasn’t held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but this year’s tournament has a star-studded field.
Nadal isn’t the only former winner to participate with Novak Djokovic also in the fray. However, the pair are separated in the draw and can only meet in the finals.
Djokovic is the first seed while Nadal is the third seed. The Spaniard has won the Monte Carlo Masters a record 11 times with his last win coming in 2018. He was in the semi-finals of the 2019 edition but lost that to eventual winner Fabio Fognini.
Nadal also holds other records such as the most finals (12), most consecutive titles (8) and most consecutive finals (9).
The Spaniard also holds other records such as most matches played (72), most matches won (68) and most consecutive matches won (46).
Monte Carlo seems to hold a special place for Nadal and the Spaniard posted that this is like his second home.
The clay season is kicking off now and Nadal will have one thing on his mind, the French Open. The Spaniard has won a record 13 titles in Paris and will be keen on winning the 14th one too.
This would take him one ahead of Roger Federer and the outright leader with regards to most Grand Slams won.
Federer and Nadal are tied on 20 but the Swiss Ace might not play in the French Open. The Swiss star also doesn’t have the greatest record at the French Open.
Djokovic, for his part, won the 2021 Australian Open. He is on 18 Grand Slam titles and wants to usurp his rivals in the race too.
