Rafael Nadal is a living legend and his achievements are the stuff of dreams. He is a 22-time Grand Slam champion and at the age of 36, he is still shattering records.
The Spaniard is currently participating in the Wimbledon tournament and has reached the quarter-final stage for the 8th time in his career after beating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
The stalwart has won the most prestigious Grand Slam on a couple of occasions. His first triumph came back in 2008. The legendary Roger Federer won the tournament on five consecutive occasions beginning in 2003 before Nadal ended his impeccable streak in 2008. The two men played a pulsating final that mesmerized tennis lovers all over the world. The current world No. 4 won the match in five sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7.
The Swiss veteran won the title the following year as Nadal failed to defend the championship. The Southpaw won the title the following year in 2010. He defeated Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to become a two-time Wimbledon champion.
Rafael Nadal will face his toughest opponent till now in the last-eight stage of the competition. He will square off against Taylor Fritz from the US.
Fritz is currently ranked world No. 14. and has already beaten the Spanish veteran this year. The 24-year-old ousted Nadal in straight sets in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters in March. Fritz has come into the tournament on the back of a triumphant Eastbourne International campaign, where he won the silverware courtesy of a victory in the final against Maxime Cressy.
Nadal will be going into the match as the favorite but Fritz has the ability to once again topple the legend. The match should be a riveting affair and one that tennis fans should not miss.
