Rafael Nadal put on a show to win the 2022 Australian Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev

Rafael Nadal proved that he is far from done in the tennis world after his performance in the 2022 Australian Open final.

Nadal had struggled with injuries at the end of the previous year and there were doubts he would be able to perform in Australia.

However, the Spaniard put on some incredible performances to reach the final and did so on Sunday night too.

Nadal took on the no.2 ranked Daniil Medvedev with many predicting the Russian to pick up his second Grand Slam.

Medvedev started like a house on fire winning the first two sets 6-2 and 7-6. However, that is when Nadal got going. The Spaniard then rattled off the next two sets by winning 6-4 in each.

The third set saw a see-saw battle between the two. Nadal and Medvedev kept taking shots at each other and the Spaniard had the chance to cement his name in the history books when he was up 5-4.

However, Medvedev still pushed the Spaniard and ultimately, it was Nadal who got the win in the final set, 7-5.

This was Nadal’s 21st Grand Slam, a record, and also he picked up his second Australian Open. The last time he won in Australia was in 2009. Nadal certainly got a lot of people talking and suffice to say, the Spaniard will party all-night long.

Twitter goes crazy after Rafael Nadal creates history

Considering where Nadal was a few months back, this was an incredible achievement. The Spaniard is now ahead of both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic when it comes to Grand Slam titles.

There is also no guarantee that he won’t be winning more titles in the coming months. This was vintage Nadal, and the ability to come back from two sets down against Medvedev proved that the Spaniard is not done.

Many fans were ecstatic after this performance and here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
