A delightful news for tennis fans across the world has just broken out. The Big 4 will be playing on the same team at the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup.
We will get the chance to see a star-studded team comprising Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray at the competition. The four players have a combined total of 66 Grand Slam titles among them. All eyes will be on this team for sure.
The four experienced campaigners will defend the Laver Cup on Team Europe at The O2 Arena in London. The official Twitter handle of Laver Cup made the announcement. The Serbian legend, Djokovic replied to the Tweet and wrote: “Let’s goooo”.
So we are finally going to see the former world No. 1 Roger Federer return to action. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been out of action for over a year. This is the first time that all four legends will be joining forces. Federer posted a story on his Instagram handle, a picture of the Big 4. The 40-year-old titled it “DREAM TEAM”.
This is the first time Novak Djokovic will be returning to the tournament since competing in the 2018 edition held in Chicago. Back then, the 21-time Grand Slam winner teamed with Roger Federer.
The Laver Cup tournament came into existence in 2017. It is contested between Team Europe and Team World. The latter comprises of best players around the world except for the continent of Europe.
Team Europe has had a stranglehold on the trophy since its inception. They have lifted the trophy on four back-to-back occasions. The first Laver Cup tournament was held in 2017 in Prague. Chicago 2018, Geneva 2019, and Boston 2021 followed.
The 2022 edition will of the tournament will commence on 23rd September and culminate on the 25th of the same month.
