Roger Federer opens up about retirement plans as he continues to recover from injury

Tennis legend Roger Federer acknowledged the fact that there is no thing such as a perfect retirement as he is thinking about his next step in his career.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion has played only 13 matches in the last two seasons as he has struggled with knee injuries and has already gone under three surgeries.

Speaking (h/t Express) about the ending of his career, Federer said that he wants to retire on his own terms.

“For me, a perfect retirement does not exist.”

“Of course, I wish to choose the moment of my retirement, and I’m convinced I will know when the time is right.”

Despite reports that he might call it a day soon, the 40-year-old will be hoping to make a return in 2022 and end his glorious career on his terms as he continues to recover from injuries.

Meanwhile, the legend also said that once he actually hangs his boots – the first thing on his mind is to spend ample time with his family as he is looking forward to enjoying himself with them along with friends.

“I’m not afraid of life after tennis; it will be quite a transition towards a more relaxed life. Mirka and I have always found a perfect balance between tennis, family and friends.”

“That is what gives me the most pride of my entire career because those are the most important things in life.”

Federer injury woes

The 40-year-old has not competed since his Wimbledon quarter-final defeat where he aggravated his knee injury and was forced to undergo a third surgery. He didn’t take the court in the French Open and US Open as well.

But if reports are to be believed – the Swiss legend might be able to recover in time for the Australian Open. He is working really hard to get fit in time and give good news to his fans and the tennis world.
