‘Grass Master’ Roger Federer is into the third round of Wimbledon 2021
Roger Federer was just unstoppable in his second-round match against Richard Gasquet. King Roger breezed past Gasquet in straight sets 7-6, 6-1, 6-4 to march into the third round of the ongoing Wimbledon 2021.
A boatload of doubts were afloat after Federer had a tough time seeing off Adrian Mannarino in the first-round.
The match went into the fifth set, before Mannarino retired from the match due to injury. Federer thereby survived a scare from the Frenchman, and marched into the second round via. a walkover.
NinjaFed showed no signs of his first-round struggle against Gasquet.
Following his win over Gasquet, Federer took to Twitter the next day (today) to thank the amazing support he received from the Centre Court audience.
“After 18 months of rehabbing and performing behind closed doors, playing on Centre Court to a passionate crowd makes it all worth it. Thank you.”
Wimbledon 2021 has been only Federer’s second grand slam since his career-threatening knee injury he sustained at Australian Open 2020.
Roger Federer will be taking on fan-favourite Cameron Norrie next
Having beaten Gasquet in the second round, Federer will be returning to Centre Court action once again in the third round.
This time he will be facing an uphill task in the form of Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom. Norrie is seeded 29 and will have the huge backing of the English crowd when he takes on ‘The Mighty Federer’.
The match is scheduled to take place on the third of July.
Norrie is coming off a first round victory over Lucas Pouille and a second round straight sets win over Australian, Alex Bolt.
