“You know you’re getting old when the candles cost more than the cake” – Roger Federer’s cheeky message following a mountain of birthday wishes

The legendary Roger Federer celebrated his 41st birthday on 8th August. Wishes poured in from fans from different parts of the world on social media.

The Swiss star shared an image on his social media platforms on the occasion of his birthday. He thanked his fans for wishing him and made a hilarious remark regarding his age. Federer wrote: You know you’re getting old when the candles cost more than the cake. Thanks for all the amazing birthday wishes.”

The 20-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer has been out of action since last year’s Wimbledon competition. However, fans will get to see him back on the tennis court at the upcoming Laver Cup event in September. He will join Team Europe alongside other legends like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. After the Laver Cup, Federer will be seen in action in Basel where he will play an ATP 500 event.

Roger Federer’s performances at the Laver Cup over the years

The first edition of the Laver Cup competition was held in 2017. Federer took part in the tournament and returned for the next two editions in 2018 and 2019 as well.

Out of the 18 matches, he has played, Federer has won 8 and lost 3. In singles matches, he has a clean slate winning all six of the matches he has played.

As far as doubles are concerned, Federer has won 2 matches while losing on 3 occasions. Laver Cup is a tournament played between Team Europe and Team World. Team Europe has won all four editions of the tournament so far.

Laver Cup 2022 begins on September 23.
