Serena Williams recently revealed her plan to retire, and it could possibly be after the upcoming US Open Grand Slam. The final major of the year will begin on August 29.
In an Instagram post, Serena Williams did not come up with an exact date for her retirement but she did write “next few weeks” which could possibly indicate the US Open being her last campaign. US Open is a tournament which the legendary player has won on six occasions – 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012,2013, and 2014.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion has been seen wearing black tape on her right cheek. In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about why the veteran tennis star is sporting the unique accessory.
Williams was ruled out of action for almost a year after limping out of last year’s Wimbledon Championships during her first-round match. She made her comeback to tennis earlier this year at Eastbourne International. Since then, she has been seen wearing black tape on her face.
The tape is also known as kinesiology tape, and it helps in alleviating her sinus problems. Williams’ fans would know that she has had her issues with sinus and several years ago she had stated that it hampers her performances. Headaches caused due to sinus can be prevented or at least the pain can be minimalized to a great deal with the help of the kinesiology tape.
