Venus Williams suggested a unique name for her niece, the second daughter of Serena – here’s everything you need to know

Venus Williams is all set to become an aunt for the second time. Earlier in July, when Serena’s second child’s gender was not disclosed, a fan inquired with Venus about suggesting a name for a baby, and she proposed a name that she believed could work for any gender.

When asked whether she had any baby name suggestions for Serena, the 7-time Grand Slam champion playfully switched to a witty and sarcastic aunt-like demeanor. The video was recorded prior to the revelation of the baby’s gender, but it was shared online recently.

Venus went on to explain, “However, I believe that regardless of whether it’s a boy or a girl, the name Venus would be fitting.” Venus Williams holds a strong attachment to her own name. When questioned about offering alternative name ideas, she jokingly pondered over celestial names such as Mars, Pluto, Jupiter, and Uranus. However, she eventually reiterated her fondness for her own name.

Serena Williams is set to welcome a second daughter to her family

Earlier in August, Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, made an extravagant announcement regarding the gender of their second child, adding to their family which already includes their 5-year-old daughter, Olympia. They creatively revealed the baby’s sex during a combined “baby shower-slash-gender reveal” event.

Serena made her preference for a girl (“team pink,” as she called it) evident by donning a pink and white ensemble that accentuated her baby bump. The outdoor celebration featured a vibrant rainbow balloon arch with a prominent sign reading “Our Next Great Adventure.” Colorful balloon bouquets were positioned on tall white sticks to resemble trees, while coordinating blankets were scattered across the lush surroundings, offering guests a comfortable space to relax.

Ohanian decided to inject some fun into the moment, surprising Williams in the process. Instead of following the traditional pink-for-girl and blue-for-boy cake approach, Ohanian went for a yellow cake to playfully confuse the tennis star. He shared his playful intentions with the camera, explaining that he wanted to trick both Serena and Olympia into thinking it was the reveal for their pet-named “Jelly Bean.”

Amid reactions of amazement from the attendees, drones illuminated the sky with the word “Girl!” written out. Amid the cheers and applause of the guests, Serena, Alexis, and Olympia joyfully expressed their excitement.
