Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova arrested on suspicion of match-fixing
Match fixing returns to haunt tennis after Yana Sizikova arrested on allegations of fixing a game.
The Russian, ranked 765th in the world has denied the claims according to her lawyer. French police releases the star without filing any charges.

A match pertaining to last year led to her arrest. In addition, The match investigated was between Romanian pair Andreea Mitu and Patricia Mari and Sizikova and American Madison Brengle.
Suspicions of “organised fraud” and “sporting corruption” led to investigations since October. The Russian has been accused of sporting corruption, which is certainly a 5-year sentence in prison and a fine of 500,000 euro ($608,000; £430,000).
Match fixing is a serious breach of the rules of the game and have seen a number of investigations such as Nikolai Davydenko in the past.
In 2007, French player Arnaud Clement denied a bribe to fix a match. He did not publish any details to prevent a negative impact on his game and career too.
Furthermore, in 2008, Nikolai Davydenko also was one of the most important names involved in a match fixing scandal. Davydenko had texts with heads of an Italian betting syndicate.
In 2021, the International Tennis Federation banned Argentinian player Franco Feitt for his involvement in betting, that is, he is unable to attend or play a sanctioned match.
Match fixing is a big evil in sports even today and players must learn to at least play the game in the right spirit and without any means of cheating or deceit.
