After her mother separated from her father, she was raised by her stepfather, Sheldon Farrell along with her mother. Farrell was a competitive tennis player and was her primary inspiration to play the sport. Stephens has a younger half-brother, Shawn Farrell. Stephens’ stepfather died from cancer in 2007 while her father died in a car crash in 2009. Stephens has family homes in both California and Florida.

Sloane Stephens is married to United States National Soccer team player, Jozy Altidore. The couple are childhood friends from their time in Florida. Stephens had previously dated fellow American tennis player, Jack Sock.
