Casper Ruud and Holger Rune were involved in a controversial incident at last year’s Roland Garros
Casper Ruud was at his candid best during an interactive Q&A session on Twitter last night. Ruud answered selective questions from fans on the platform and one particular asked him about his encounter with Rune in France. “Did you really scream JAAAAAA at him?” The Norwegian tennis star came up with a humorous reply and wrote: “Sorry to disappoint but Noooooo.”
The conversation has an obvious reference to an incident involving Ruud and Rune at the 2022 Roland Garros. After their fiercely contested Quarter-final match in which Ruud emerged victorious, Rune claimed that Casper Ruud was shouting in his face in the locker room. In a post-match interview, Rune stated: “The team is really nice and sweet, but then he (Ruud) goes straight to me and shouts ‘JAAA’ straight up in my face. I thought ‘what the hell are you doing?’. You just do not do that. You can cheer as much as you want on the court, I do it myself when I win. But that’s just a lack of class. He should have had more respect.” However, Ruud has always maintained he never did any such thing and brushed aside Rune’s claims.
Let us take a look at some of the reactions from fans on social media.
“You did you weirdo, we know you are an arrogant Norwegian. Next time you face Holger he will teach you a lesson”, wrote a fan who evidently didn’t believe what Ruud had to say.
“I believe casper but also i’m sure there are locker room cameras to settle this once and for all haha”, joked another fan.
“It’s okay. You’ll beat him again and get your chance”, read a tweet.
“Did you shout JAAAAA at your TV when Andrey’s backhand return hit the tape and then bounced over to the other side?”, tweeted another fan.
Another fan wrote: “Casper please be more active on twitter you’re so effortlessly hilarious.”
