The 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka took on the red-hot Holger Rune in the round of 64 of the Paris Masters. Both players played some fantastic tennis and the Danish youngster eventually got over the line 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
The 19-year-old has been on a roll in the last couple of months. He finished runner-up in the Sofia Open and the Basel Open but lifted the title in Stockholm. Holger Rune began his campaign in the Paris Masters in the round of 64 against the Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka. The youngster produced a great show of grit and determination to down the experienced campaigner in an intriguing match. However, something happened after the end of the match that left a bad taste in the mouth of the tennis world.
Wawrinka and Rune came up to the net to shake hands after the match. In the video below, it can be heard that Wawrinka gave a stern piece of advice to the world No. 18. The 37-year-old said:
“My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on the court, OK?”
Rune did not give any reply but seemed quite surprised to get that kind of suggestion from Wawrinka. Fans did not like what they heard or saw but now it seems that the two players have gotten on the same page.

Holger Rune took to Instagram after his match with Stan Wawrinka and praised the veteran, calling him “an incredible fighter”.
Rune wrote:
“What a match yesterday night🦾 @stanwawrinka85 is an incredible fighter and I am grateful to be through to the second round at @rolexparismasters
See you for more tennis around 17:00 today ✔️”
Stan Wawrinka commented a couple of emojis beneath the post and it seemed that all is well between the two players. Wawrinka commented:
“👏💪🏻”
Rune’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou also tagged Wawrinka and wrote:
“So great to see you back at that level ! Such a treat for the fans !”
