In his professional playing career, Amritraj achieved a 178 doubles ranking. He captured the doubles title at the 2007 Kaoshiung Taiwan Challenger, along with partner Dudi Sela. Amritraj also finished as a semifinalist in doubles in five events on the ATP Challenger Tour, from 2007 to 08.
Amritraj was a part of one of the most successful doubles tandems in Blue Devil history during his four years at Duke from 2003 to 06. He ranks eighth on Duke’s all-time list for most doubles wins in a career at 31 along with partner Peter Rodrigues.
In the 2006 ACC Championship match against Virginia, Amritraj clinched the 4-3 win for Duke from the No. 6 singles position. He was awarded All-ACC honors in 2006, while garnering Academic All-ACC accolades during the 2002-03 and the 2004-05 academic years.

Stephen Amritraj is the son of former world tour player Anand Amritraj and paternal cousin of fellow former pro Prakash Amritraj, who also represented India. He played high school tennis at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, California, and NCAA college tennis for Duke University.
