Roger Federer has ruled out the possibility of playing singles at the Laver Cup, owing to his recurring injury
Roger Federer has confirmed that he would be only playing ‘Doubles’ for Team Europe at Laver Cup 2022. The Swiss maestro has undergone several knee surgeries in recent years and it’s the same recurring problem that’s preventing Federer from playing Singles. As things stand, the doubles match at the Laver Cup will be the final tennis match of his professional career.
Besides confirming that he will only be playing Doubles, Federer has also hinted that he could potentially partner with Rafael Nadal for the game. Federer said it would be ‘special’ to play alongside his great friend and rival, Nadal in the final match of his career. The Laver Cup action begins on September 23 at the O2 Arena in London.
Besides Nadal and Federer, Team Europe comprises a strong line-up including current World No.2 Casper Ruud, Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas and led by captain Bjorn Borg.
Fans react to the news of Roger Federer only playing Doubles at the Laver Cup
