Taylor tFritz has suffered a shock exit from the Monte Carlo Masters after losing 6-2, 4-6, 3-6 against unseeded Davidovich Fokina

Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has caused another major upset at the Monte Carlo Masters 2022. The Spaniard made an incredible comeback from one set down to defeat the 10th seed Taylor Fritz. Davidovich has been the surprise package of this tournament. He pulled off a stunning victory against the top seed Novak Djokovic and followed it up with a straight sets victory over David Goffin in his previous rounds.

Fritz was the outright favourite going into the match. The higher-ranked American has been in sublime touch and has recently won the Indian Wells Masters. However, the unseeded Spaniard had other plans. He had already got the better of Fritz once before on the ATP tour, back in 2019 and he has done it once again!

Fans react to Taylor Fritz vs Davidovich Fokina on Twitter

Davidovich is on an amazing run in Monte Carlo. Novak Djokovic, David Goffin, Taylor Fritz – no one really gave the Spaniard a chance against these stalwarts but he has now got past them all. Fans on Twitter are stoked to witness the sublime display of tennis from this emerging youngster.

Fans were clearly impressed with the Spaniard’s display even though some of them were hoping for a Fritz victory. A fan tweeted, “Was rooting for Fritz but not mad at this result at all. ADF was amazing so far this week 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”

Fans are now convinced that Davidovich is ready for the big stage. “That novak win was no fluke. He’s dangerous on clay”, a fan tweeted.

Another impressed fan tweeted, “Backing Davidovich-Fokina to win the entire thing. He is #nolefam after all! ♥️”

Some fans are still sceptical about Davidovich’s chances in the tournament though. “If you watched this match you’d know he has 0 chance. As unreliable as both Tsitsipas and Zverev are right now, they’d absolutely crush him. In fact, if Fritz wasn’t injured hed have won in straight sets”, wrote a fan.
