No.1 seed Caroline Garcia lost 4-6, 6-3, 5-7 to Donna Vekic in the summit clash of the Monterrey Open
WTA star Caroline Garcia is having a tough time dealing with her heart-breaking loss in the final of the Monterrey Open. Garcia was the top seed in the tournament but fell in the final hurdle, losing to No.3 seed Donna Vekic. The French has arrived in California for the Indian Wells Masters but she has revealed that the loss in the final is hurting her from the inside and she is struggling to get over it.
Garcia shared her feelings on her Instagram story and it’s certainly to see an athlete having to through such downs. “Terribly tired, physically and mentally, leaving to the airport in 6h but I can’t fall asleep, I am “afraid” to go to sleep,” she wrote in Instagram stories. “My mind is going crazy. Every time I switch off the lights and put my head on the pillow, I can rewatch my match, that serve catching the lines on break point or that easy forehand missed or that bad choice. Tennis can drive you crazy a little bit“, she wrote. However, she has very little time to get herself together before she plays her first round match at the Indian Wells Masters on March 11.
Let us take a look at some of the reactions from fans on social media.
“Yeah. I still remember the match from 30 years ago where a win would have put me in the local top 3, where I gave away a 5-2 in the 3rd set. Tennis is a mind game”, wrote a fan who could totally relate to her feelings.
“That’s awful. Its a shame, no matter how successful someone can be they can still get caught up in what yet eludes them”, commented another fan.
“Insomnia is the worst. Constantly changing time zones and late night schedules don’t help”, read a comment.
“This sucks. Losing Lyon, her home tourney, and Monterrey must hurt. She’s my favorite player rn”, stated another fan.
Another fan wrote: “Reminds me when I do badly on my exams and I can’t stop ruminating.”
