America’s Katie Volynets is in the news for more reasons than one. The 21-year-old stunned the crowd at the Margaret Arena earlier today after pulling off a thrilling 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over ninth-seed Veronika Kudermetova. If that wasn’t enough, her surname has caught the attention of viewers and fans on social media are wondering if ‘Volynets’ is the most Tennis-y name of all time.
Some of Volynets’ closest competitors would be ‘Tennys’ Sandgren and Anna ‘Smash’nova. Sandgren is an active player and a regular in the WTA Challenger series while Anna Smashnova is a former Soviet-born Israeli tennis player.
