Alexander Bublik lost a thrilling three-setter against Gregoire Barrere in the first round of Open Sud de France – while also obliterating three racquets in a row.
Alexander Bublik was left terribly frustrated after losing an intense three-set encounter against France’s Gregoire Barrere in Montpellier. In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, Bublik can be seen destroying three racquets on the court after his heart-breaking defeat. Bublik lost to Barrere 4-6, 7-6, 6-7 in a match that lasted more than three hours.
Bublik was seeded sixth in the tournament but fell to an unseeded Frenchman. He was also the defending champion but his title defense didn’t last too long as he bowed out of the first round itself. The 25-year-old was left so frustrated that he was seen taking out one racquet after another from his kit bag and smashing them against the surface of the court until they broke. The footage of Bublik’s meltdown has gone viral on social media in no time.
Let us take a look at some of the reactions from fans on social media.
“Yeah looking at the scoreline that’s gotta be one of the most frustrating ways to lose a match lol”, wrote a fan.
“If he wants to destroy his own rackets, he can knock himself out. It’s the leaving it in the court that ticks me off. At the very least, pick up your garbage, dude”, commented another fan.
“look i understand being angry, and i understand pros smashing a racquet but that’s excessive. smash a racquet and move on with it”, read a comment.
“That fourth racquet looking real nervous”, joked another fan.
Another fan wrote: “If he’d done a fourth I think there might have been more cheers than boos by that point. You could hear the tide turning on 3.”
