Novak Djokovic defaulted in the US Open after he hit a line judge
The tennis world was left shocked as Novak Djokovic defaulted in the US Open after he hit a line judge during his round of 16 match against Pablo Carreno Busta.
Djokovic was the favourite coming into this competition as he chased Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slams.
The Serbian won the Australian Open earlier in the year and with Wimbledon cancelled, this was the second Grand Slam of the year.
Djokovic cut a frustrated figure in the first set and after losing a game, he tried to send the ball back to the ball boys/girls.
However, his second shot hit one of the line judges and the lady fell down. She was hit on the throat it seemed and Djokovic rushed to attend to her.

The Serbian tried to explain his situation in a long conversation but he defaulted from the competition.
However, the rule book confirmed the fine that Djokovic was going to pay. The Serbian was thrown out from the US Open and was fined all the points and prize money he won. He could also get more fines levied on him in due course.
Kyrgios serves an ace
While Djokovic posted a long apology for his actions, getting defaulted from the US Open is a huge punishment.

It did seem that he didn’t mean to harm the judge, but Nick Kyrgios took a swipe at his rival. The Australian hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with many top tennis stars and joked how long he would be banned if he did a similar incident.
The options ranged from five years to 20 years, however, Tommy Paul had the most epic response to all this.
The tennis star claimed that Kyrgios would be in jail right now, and players would have to bail him out.

Kyrgios, who has a bit of a wild side to him, loved the response but things don’t look good for Djokovic.
The Serbian was criticised for organising the Adria Tour which led to many coronavirus cases. He also recently resigned from the players association to start his own group.
2020 started off with a bang for Djokovic, but nothing seems to be going right for him ever since.
