Rafael Nadal had spoken about the actions of the government in wake of the Covid-19 situation in Spain and his uncle Toni lashed out at his critics
Toni Nadal, the uncle of Spanish sensation Rafael, came out in support of the ace regarding some comments he made about the covid-19 situation.
He was speaking to La Voz de Galicia and claimed that he wanted the people in power to do the best job they can.
Nadal stressed he didn’t care who was in power but just wanted the best for his Spanish people.
However, he did go on to say that he had to be careful of what he said due to his stature. That doesn’t seem to have gone down well with some as he blasted the people in charge.
But his former coach Tony, came to his rescue as he lashed out at several critics of Rafa (h/t Mondo):
“I cannot understand that the person who pays taxes here has no right to express his opinion. I think it is logical that he has the right, no matter who you are. Everyone has the right to an opinion.”
Toni then went on to explain that people with differing opinions should not be hounded down as it is done these days:
“There are people who think differently. The problem is that we’re in constant confrontation. If you’re not one of us, everything you say – I don’t like it. That should change.”
Nadal not concerned about Grand Slams now
In the same interview, Nadal was asked about what gave him true happiness. The Spaniard claimed that even winning 30 Grand Slams wouldn’t be enough as he wants things to return to normal.
Nadal has time and again suggested he wants to meet up with friends and live the normal life. However, the coronavirus situation has ensured nothing of that sort happens. The tennis season won’t be back until June but there is no surety of which events will take place.
Thousands have lost lives due to Covid-19 in Spain, and hopefully, things become safer for all across the world soon.
