Naomi Osaka will not participate in the 2020 French Open after picking up a hamstring injury

Naomi Osaka, who recently won the 2020 US Open, has pulled out of the upcoming French Open citing a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old won her third Grand Slam after an epic comeback against Victoria Azarenka. This was her second US Open title and she made quite a statement on the court and off it.

Osaka wore masks in support of blacks killed in gun violence by the police and others before and after each match.

However, she will not be able to do the same when Roland Garros comes calling. Just a week or so after winning the 2020 US Open, Osaka shared the injury news on her social media accounts.

The 22-year-old confirmed that her hamstring was sore and she wouldn’t have enough time to prepare for Paris.

Osaka thanked the fans for their support during the US Open and wished everyone the best ahead of Roland Garros.

French Open loses a star

Osaka pulling out of the French Open would come as a blow to the organisers. She is one of the best in the world and would have wanted to carry her momentum on the clay courts.

Osaka did suggest that the scheduling of the third slam of the year was one reason why she wouldn’t get time to heal up.

Wimbledon was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The French Open, however, decided to reschedule the tournament and it now takes place after the US Open.

This would not be the first time Osaka missed a Grand Slam due to an injury. In 2016, she missed Wimbledon after picking up an injury at the French Open.

Hopefully, Osaka returns to full fitness soon and finished the WTA season too. The 22-year-old was excellent in the US Open and many of her fans wished her the best as she recovers:
