Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal won his third Mexico Open but claiming the 2020 crown.
He easily defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 in the final and didn’t drop a set while playing in Acapulco.
This was Nadal’s 85th ATP title in his career, and a couple of incredible stats came out from this win for the Spaniard.
Nadal has now won a title in 17 consecutive years in the ATP. He also won the Acapulco title in 2005, the first time he won it, and him winning it in 2020 led to a unique stat:
This just highlights the incredible levels at which Nadal has been performing. He was the biggest name in the 2020 Mexico Open, and he dominated the field throughout.
Nadal was back in action after missing out on the 2020 Australian Open. Novak Djokovic won his eighth title as he beat Dominic Thiem in the final.
Many fans were impressed with Nadal’s feat and here are some of the reactions:
Nadal might have been upset at missing out on the Australian Open title but he could have become the world No.1 after winning the Mexico Open.
However, the Spaniard also needed Djokovic to fail to reach the final of the 2020 Dubai Tennis Championships.
The Serbian was excellent throughout the competition and easily won the title. He defeated Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas and has now won 21 matches in a row.
Nadal and Djokovic will also be in doubles action during the Indian Wells tournament later in the pair.
The pair haven’t played doubles for a while, and it will be interesting to see how they perform with their respective partners.
