“Great performance. Well deserved.” – Twitter reacts following Aryna Sabalenka’s win against Danielle Collins at US Open

Aruna Sabalenka reached the quarterfinals of the US Open for the second year in a row after defeating home favorite Danielle Collins 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Belarusian tennis pro’s journey at Flushing Meadows seemed to be in a spot of bother as she lost the first set and required medical attention following a leg injury at one point. However, the 24-year-old showed great vigor en route to registering a spectacular come-from-behind victory.

Sabalenka hit 8 aces compared to just Collins’ 3. The American committed 11 double faults and that certainly didn’t help her cause.

This is already the best result at a major in 2022 for the World No. 6. She will take on Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals. Pliskova won her fourth-round match against Victoria Azarenka in three sets to seal her spot in the last-8 stage of the competition. The former World No. 1 will undoubtedly provide a huge challenge for Sabalenka.

Both women have played each other on four different occasions. The head-to-head is evenly poised at 2-2. Their last meeting came last year at the Canadian Open where Pliskova won the match with relative ease in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
