Barbora Krejcikova defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the finals of the 2021 Roland Garros to become the first Czech woman to win a title at the Roland Garros since Hana Mandlikova in 1981.
After dropping the very first game of the match, Krejcikova rallied to win the next six games in a row, taking the first set 6-1.
However, the Russian came back strongly, winning the next set 6-2.
With the set scores 1-1, and Pavlyuchenkova struggling due to a thigh strain, Krejcikova began making the most of it in the third set.
But, the half fit Russian, still fought on going 3-2 up in the final set.
After that it was all Krejcikova, as she went on to beat Pavlyunchenkova 6-4 in the final set.

Barbora Krejcikova’s win set up a unique record. There have been six new women’s winners at the last 6 Roland Garros tournaments.
It was Garbine Muguruza in 2016, Jelena Ostapenko in 2017, Simona Halep in 2018, Ashleigh Barty in 2019, Iga Swiatek in 2020, and now Barbora Krejcikova.
Hopefully this will be a sign of things to come from the unseeded Czech.
