Ilya Ivashka has managed to turn heads in the tennis world after upsetting some popular names on the ATP circuit. He has his task cut out in the round of 16 when he faces one of the most promising youngsters – Jannik Sinner.

The 28-year-old reached the semi-final stage at the Atlanta Open. He was ousted by Alex de Minaur. Ivashka has reached the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time in his career.

The Belarusian lost the first set of his first match against Sam Querrey but showed great resilience to eventually win the match 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3. Ivashka defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the second round and Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round. In both those matches, he lost the second set.

Jannik Sinner

The young Italian has won 41 matches and lost just 11 in 2022. He has reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. At the French Open, he made it to the fourth round. Sinner won the Croatia Open by defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

At the US Open, Sinner had to dig deep to win his opening-round match against Daniel Altmaier in five sets. In the second match, he defeated Christopher Eubanks in straight sets. Brandon Nakashima was Sinner’s third round opponent. The American won the first set but was outplayed in the following three. This is the second time Sinner has reached the fourth round at the US Open.
