The in-form Nick Kyrgios locks horns with France’s Benjamin Bonzi in the second round of the ongoing US Open tournament.
The Australian tennis pro met his doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round. Kyrgios defeated the fellow Australian in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). The 27-year-old hit 14 aces and had a staggering win percentage of 87 on the first serve and 90 on the second serve.
Kyrgios has won 16 out of his last 18 matches. He has been in great form as of late. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has not progressed beyond the third round at Flushing Meadows. However, with the tennis he is playing at the moment, he could go much deeper this time.
The Mallorca Open semifinalist began his US Open campaign with a hard-fought win against fellow Frenchman Ugo Humbert in a five-set thriller. Bonzi won the match 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 6-2 to progress to the second round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
The World No. 50 hit 9 aces and had an impressive win percentage of 85 on the first serve in his match against Humbert.
The two players have not faced each other before. The head-to-head stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in straight sets.
