Ninth seed Garbine Muguruza is set to take on Czech star Petra Kvitova in the third round of US Open 2022
Petra Kvitova’s form coming into the match
Petra Kvitova, the 21st seed, secured her 23rd win of the season and an astonishing 599th overall against talented teenager Erika Andreeva in the opening round. The Czech spoke about being nervous at the start of the contest and the slower-than-expected balls. Having found her stride halfway through in the first set, though, the southpaw overpowered her opponent in the second to close out a 7-6, 6-0 win. In her second round, she received a Walkover from her Ukrainian opponent Anhelina Kalinina.
Kvitova has now won seven of her last eight matches and will look to carry the winning momentum deeper into the tournament.
Garbine Muguruza’s form coming into the match
After a standout 2021, Muguruza hasn’t been able to get going this season. She started the year by reaching the quarterfinals in Sydney. At the Australian Open, she lost to Alize Cornet in the second round. The Spaniard’s title defense in Dubai ended in the second round as well, but she made it to the quarterfinals in Doha. Muguruza then fell in the opening round of the French Open. She even lost in the first round of Wimbledon later on.
Her preparations for the US Open haven’t been ideal either. She lost in the third round of the Canadian Open and then made a second-round exit in Cincinnati. Muguruza has also underperformed at the US Open when compared to her results at the other Majors. She is yet to progress beyond the fourth round in New York.
Muguruza defeated Clara Tauson and Lunda Fruhvirtova in her previous two rounds to set up a clash against Kvitova.

Head to head and Predictions
Kvitova and Muguruza have previously played six matches against each other on the WTA tour. The Czech has an over-whelming 5-1 lead on head to head. However, Muguruza is the higher-ranked player going into this encounter and it should be a very close affair. We are predicting a win in three sets for Muguruza.
