Carlos Alcaraz will always remember the year 2022 fondly as he lived up to his potential for the first time in his young career – the young Spaniard recently featured in the TIME100 NEXT list
The 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz bagged four ATP titles this year and also finished runner-up in a couple of tournaments. However, his biggest triumph came at the 2022 US Open, when he defeated the likes of Marin Cilic, Jannik Sinner, Frances Tiafoe, and Casper Ruud, among others to win his maiden major title.
Fans and critics have started calling him the successor to the likes of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz is certainly on his way and if he can keep his focus, then he will surely become one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.
The young Spaniard was named in the 2022 TIME100 Next list on Wednesday. The list is released every year and it “recognizes 100 rising stars from across industries and around the world.”
The world No. 1 was quite excited to be named on the prestigious list and he put out a tweet expressing the same. He wrote:
