The last Grand Slam of the year – US Open is almost upon us. The players are making their last-minute preparations before the ball is set to roll on August 29. Qualifiers begin on August 23.
The USTA announced on Thursday that the prize money for men and women at the US Open will top more than $60 million for the first time.
The qualifying event and initial rounds will also have an increased sum as prize money which resulted from fruitful discussions with the ATP and WTA Player Councils.
If a player loses in the first round of the main draw, he will earn $80,000. This is an increase of 85 percent since 2016. The qualifying event will award prize money of $6.26 million which is up by 223 percent from 2016. Competitors in the final-round qualifiers will earn $44,000.
The men’s and women’s singles champions will be rewarded with whopping prize money of $2,600,000 while the runner-up will receive $1,300,000.
