Venus Williams is one of the greatest sporting heroes of the modern era. Along with her sister Serena Williams, she changed the complete outlook of women’s tennis. 1. 2005 Wimbledon Final: Williams defeats Davenport 4-6, 7-6, 9-7.

Venus Williams entered the final as the underdog. Lindsay Davenport was the world No. 1 at the time. Davenport clinched the first set but Williams came back to win this thrilling three setter in tie break. This match is considered to be one of the best ladies’ finals in Wimbledon history.

2. 2008 Wimbledon Final: Venus William def Serena Williams 7-5, 6-4.

Going into the match, Serena had a 5-1 advantage over Venus in previous Grand Slam finals and was looking poised to clinch the title. Venus surprised everyone to win her fifth Wimbledon title. She established herself as the best grass court player of her generation.

3. 2001 Miami Masters Final: Williams defeats Capriati 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Venus Williams and Jennifer Capriati were two of the biggest WTA stars in the 2000s era. Capriati was a former World No.1 and three-time grand slam champion. Williams came out on top in the final clinching a thrilling three-setter after going one set down.

4. 2005 Wimbledon Semi-Final: Williams defeats Sharapova 7-6, 6-1.

In the early 2000s, the Williams’ sisters dominated Wimbledon. Sharapova made a breakthrough in 2004 and caused an epic upset defeating defending champion, Serena Williams in a straight sets final. Venus faced Sharapova in an intense semi final in 2005 and earned a dominating victory. It was definitely a statement from Venus – she is the best grass court player.

  1. 2000 Wimbledon Quarter-final: Williams defeats Hingis 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
    Martina Hingis had won all three previous meetings against Venus. She entered the final as the hot favourite. Williams pulled off an upset in an intense three-setter and defeated Martina Hingis for the first time ever. This result marked the beginning of the change of guard in women’s tennis.
