Novak Djokovic has come a long way and is one of the most successful Tennis players of all-time – here is a 4-year-old Nole in a practice session
Novak Djokovic started playing Tennis from a very young age and a footage from one of his childhood training sessions has gone viral on social media. The Serbian began playing tennis at the age of four after his parents gave him a mini-racket and a soft foam ball, which his father claimed became “the most beloved toy in his life”.
After two years of training sessions close to home, six-year-old Djokovic was sent to a Tennis camp where he was supervised by former players and his career took off from there.
In the viral footage, 4-year-old Djokovic can be seen hitting strokes with a mini-racket with his parents and coach cheering him on. The video has gone viral in no time and fans seem to absolutely love this previously unseen clip. The footage dates back to June 23, 1991, and sources claim (unconfirmed) that it is Djokovic’s first-ever training session. Well, who would have known back then that this four-year-old Serbian kid would go on to become the greatest Tennis player in the history of the sport?
Novak Djokovic has come a long way from the summer of 1991 and has established himself as the greatest Tennis player of all-time. He is an all-time sporting legend and if there were any doubts previously, there shouldn’t be any more after his record-breaking title win at the French Open.
Djokovic (23) now has won the most number of Grand Slam titles in the history of the sport – one more than his closest rival Rafael Nadal (22). He also holds the record of being No.1 in the ATP rankings for the longest duration of time. He won a record tenth Australian Open title in Melbourne earlier this year and is well on his way to winning a ‘Calendar Grand Slam’, with the Wimbledon and the US Open scheduled to take place later this year.
Djokovic has bagged 67 ‘Big Titles’ which includes Grand Slam titles, ATP finals, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments and Olympic singles gold medals. As things stand currently, Djoker is seven ‘Big Titles’ clear of his biggest rivals – Nadal (59) and Federer (54). Earlier this year, Djokovic became the third-oldest man in the Open Era to triumph at the Australian Open, trailing only Ken Rosewall and Federer, who both accomplished the feat aged 36. With his victory against Tsitsipas in the championship clash, the Serbian also holds the record of winning 17 consecutive matches against Top 5 opponents at the tournament. Djokovic has still got a lot to offer to Tennis and it remains to be seen where he eventually finishes by the end of his career.
