Daniil Medvedev was recently ousted from the Canadian Open in the round of 32 after suffering defeat against an in-form Nick Kyrgios.
The Russian tennis pro came into the tournament on the back of a triumphant campaign at Los Cabos Open where he emerged victorious without dropping a set. A strong performance was expected from the world no. 1 at Montreal but that wasn’t to be. Nick Kyrgios outclassed the 2021 US Open champion 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 6-2 in the first round.
Medvedev would have been distraught after the loss. To make matters worse, a small section of fans disrespectfully hurled “loser” chants at him while he was making his way out of the stadium.
The 26-year-old stopped and went in the direction of the fans and got involved in a war of words. Security personnel was quick to get to the scene to stop things from potentially going out of hand. Medvedev asks: “What did you say?”. Later he was seen gesturing to the fans to keep a cool head.
What’s next for Daniil Medvedev?
Daniil Medvedev has won 14 titles till now. His biggest triumph came last year at Flushing Meadows where he won the US Open having dropped just one set throughout the competition.
Medvedev will next be seen at the Cincinnati Open. He will begin his campaign at on August 16. His opponent is yet to be decided.
Medvedev will be looking forward to having a good Cincinnati Open campaign to build momentum ahead of the upcoming US Open Grand Slam.
