Taylor Fritz lost to Rafael Nadal 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 in an intense five-set thriller at Wimbledon

Taylor Fritz put up a sublime display of tennis on center court in the Wimbledon quarter-final against Rafael Nadal but the Spaniard would just not bow down. Fritz almost had him in the fourth set but could not finish it and Nadal made him pay, winning 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 in 4hr 20min, the fourth-longest match of the championships. Irrespective of the result, Taylor Fritz received a standing ovation from the crowd after the match, for his humongous effort.

24-year-old Taylor Fritz came to the championships in good form, winning Eastbourne International. He had fresh recollections also of defeating Nadal when they last met, in the Indian Wells final. However, as things turned out, even his best efforts were just not good enough against the indomitable spirit of Nadal.

Fritz was clearly devastated after this heart-breaking loss. “This probably hurts more than any loss I’ve ever had. I feel confident saying this is number one because literally after the match was over, I was sitting there and I felt like crying, like I wanted to cry. I’ve never felt like that ever after a loss. I’ve never felt like I could cry after a loss”, said the America, after the match.
